Over the past several months, I have embarked on a unique project aimed at capturing the timeless beauty of Mount Fuji through a modern lens. Utilizing a collection of unsecured CCTV and IP cameras located in Japan, I have been documenting various perspectives of this iconic mountain on a daily basis.
My project involves visiting these cameras regularly and taking screenshots that capture Mount Fuji in different lights and weather conditions throughout the year. This endeavor not only highlights the majestic and ever-changing scenery of Mount Fuji but also emphasizes the intersection of technology and natural beauty.
The goal of this project is to create a comprehensive visual record of Mount Fuji's transformations through time, showcasing its seasonal changes, daily variations, and the interplay between natural elements and human infrastructure. This documentation serves as a testament to the mountain's enduring allure and the continuous advancements in surveillance technology that allow us to observe it from afar.
It is estimated that there are millions of unsecured IP cameras around the world, offering a variety of views and perspectives that can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection. These cameras, while often intended for security and monitoring purposes, also provide a unique opportunity for artistic and observational projects such as this.
Through this project, I aim to offer a new perspective on Mount Fuji, one that combines traditional appreciation of nature with contemporary technological capabilities.
